About this event

Jennifer Heppel, Commissioner of the Patriot League, a National College Athletic Association(NCAA) Division I conference composed of member institutions in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, including American and Georgetown, brings over 30 years of experience working in collegiate athletics. She has worked at the institutional level, within the NCAA national office, and on staff at the Big Ten Conference.

Jennifer will discuss current issues in the collegiate athletics landscape, including recent court rulings and on-going litigation impacting issues such as payments to student-athletes for use of their name, image and likeness, transfer, and academic eligibility. She will also discuss congressional activity, consider the appropriateness of athletics within higher education, and touch on the vast differences across Division I – where institutions as different as American andOhio State compete for the same national championships and share governing responsibilities.

Other topics will include an overview of how college football is managed – what is the difference between FCS and FBS? She will leave time for questions and answers and is happy to take any questions in advance so that she can be sure to incorporate those into her comments. Send questions to mlheppel@gmail.com.
