Silent Auction

We have many great items for this year’s Silent Auction. Browse through the different categories: (Destinations: Places Near and Far (D); Unique Items (U); Theatre Tickets (T); and Gift Certificates: Restaurants and Stores (G), select the items you want to bid on. At the Gala, go to the Silent Auction area, find the item and put your name and bid amount on the bid sheets. You will be given a 5-minute warning before the bidding for each category is closed: Gift Certificates first, then Theater, then Unique Items, and lastly, Destinations. Check with a Gala volunteer a few minutes after each closing to see if you were the top bidder, and if so, be ready to pay by check or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover) and claim your item!

#D-1 –Katama Beach House on Martha’s Vineyard – one week for 8
Value: $2,200 - Availability - mutually agreed upon dates, Sept 7-26, 2019 or mid-April to mid-May, 2020

#D-2 – Paris Apartment – one week, 2 bedrooms
Value: $2,000 – Not available mid-June through August; mutually agreed upon dates.
Classic 2-bedroom French apartment with fully-equipped kitchen, w/d, internet, cable. On a quiet, tree-lined street in the Marais - historic district in the heart of Paris on the Right Bank. Short walk to Centre Pompidou, the Bastille, Picasso Museum, and more. Rent a Velib’ bike to get around. Nearby shopping, restaurants, cafes and wine bars.


#D-3 – Rappahannock County Country Home – weekend for 4+
Value: $700 – Availability – mutually agreed upon dates between April 2019-2020.
2-BR, 2-BA, 1 king bed, 2 twin beds, plus futon. Heat, a/c, w/d, internet, microwave, wood stove. Overlooks Old Rag Mountain, Skyline Drive/ Shenandoah National Park. 15-minutes to Skyline Drive, 30 to Luray & Skyline Caverns. Nearby stables, hiking, restaurants (including The Inn at Little Washington), antique shops, art galleries, 4 major wineries, Pen Druid Brewery and Copper Fox Distillery, and more.

#D-4 - Weekend in Shenandoah Mountain Retreat – sleeps 5
Value: $400 – Availability – mutually agreed upon dates. 2 nights/3 days
2+ bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, internet, TV, grill, horseshoes, croquet. Quiet and secluded. Beautiful sculpture garden. Children & dogs welcome.
2.5 hours from DC, 2 miles from Appalachian Trail, 14 miles from Luray Caverns. This unique mountaintop church is the estate of Robert E. Kuhn, mid-century sculptor/artist.


#D-5 – Weekend in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia for 4
Value: $380 – Availability – mutually agreed upon dates in 2019. No pets, please.
Sleeps four – 2 twin beds, 1 king size; 1 BA
2 hours from DC. Cedar house - woods, overlooking a meadow, backdrop of Sleepy Creek Mountain. 8 miles from Berkeley Springs, 2 miles from Cacapon State Park - hiking trails and 18-hole golf course. Come for fall foliage and artist studio tour in late October; or during July for music in the Berkeley Springs Park every Saturday evening; or just come and relax.

#D6 – 4 Seasonal Suppers: Soup and Desserts for 6
Value: $200 – mutually agreed upon dates.
Villagers Monica Heppel, dessert queen, and Abigail Wiebenson, soup enthusiast, will provide 6 diners with soup, dessert, and baguette in each of the four seasons (winter, spring, summer & fall). They will deliver it to your home, where you can entertain your family or friends at your leisure.

#D-7 – Historic Potomac Boat Club – Venue for Intimate Reception
Value: $300 – Availability – June 1-October 15, mutually agreed upon date. Subject to PBC calendar
Invite your favorite dozen people for late afternoon time on the porch of the historic Potomac Boat Club (PBC), built in 1908 next to Key Bridge. Potentially view sunset & beautiful birds: heron, egret, osprey, eagle. You provide the refreshments, and champion rower, Villager Gretchen Ellsworth, will provide your friends with stories of PBC rowers and their boathouse. 

#D-8 – Authentic French Lunch for 4 – rooftop, Watergate
Value: $350 Availability: May/June or Sept-Nov; mutually agreed upon date. NOTE: the rooftop is not handicap accessible.
It is hard to know which is more enticing – the French cooking, or the expansive view of the Potomac River. The combination is a winner for those who wistfully drive by the Kennedy Center and wonder what it is like to view the river from on high. You will want to savor every bite of an authentic French lunch prepared by Villager Claire Wagner, while taking in the sweeping view of the river from the rooftop of the notorious Watergate Apartments.


#D-9 – The Line Hotel DC – Weekend for 2
Value: $600 – Availability – subject to hotel bookings, expires April 27, 2020. Food & drink not included.
Inspired by The District and housed inside a 110-year old historic church in Adams Morgan, the LINE DC is the product of a community effort by local chefs, bartenders, artists, and designers. Chefs embrace the region’s diversity with American and international culinary experiences.


Unique Items

#U-1 – Case of Wine: Coppo Barbera D'Asti "L’Avvocata" 2017

Value: $204. Must be 21 years of age or older. To be picked up at the store.
Donated by A. Litteri, Inc, near Union Market.   A case (12 bottles) of Coppo Barbera d’Asti d.o.c.g L’Avvocata 2017 will be a great addition for meals of Italian cold cuts, pasta and meatballs, or even stewed baby squid in sauce. This wine is named after the vineyard owner, a lawyer. Strict, stern and commanding, she has always been know as simply “the lawyer.” The ruby red, vivacious wine is almost comically at odds with its namesake. In March, The Washington Post gave this wine an "exceptional" rating.

#U-2 – Chinese Cooking Class for 4: Learn to make Dim Sum
Value: $400 – Availability – mutually agreed upon date.
This class with Iris Molotsky covers 3 traditional dim sum favorites: Sui Mai (steamed pork & shrimp dumplings), Chun Guen (spring rolls), and Jhun-Chu Nor Mai Gai (steamed rice in lotus leaf). Included: where to buy ingredients, Chinese cooking tips, and all ingredients.

Bring: a cutting board, a cleaver (or large sharp knife).


#U-3 - Washington Hilton Health Club – 10 daily passes
Value: $250 – Expires 10/31/2019
Living Well Day Passes include the health club, swimming pool (May 1 - October 31), plus a full schedule of fitness and yoga classes, including an exercise program designed for seniors (Golden Fit Classes)

#U-4 – The Phillips Collection – 1-year Dual/Family Membership
Value: $100
A Dual/Family membership includes unlimited free admission to special exhibitions, the permanent collection, members-only preview days for special exhibitions, discounts on events and lectures, and discounts in the museum shop and the café.


#U-5 – Two sets of 2 Nats Tickets
Value: $208 – Parking is not included.
See two great games: 2 tickets to the Washington Nationals v. Chicago Cubs, on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 7:00; and 2 tickets to the Washington Nationals v. Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, July 16 at 7:00.
These tickets are 10 rows from the field on first base side. Steps are required to reach seats.

#U-6 – Framed Drawing: The Neon Forest, II
Value: $350
This piece by DC Artist Rosabel Goodman-Everard is part of a small series using a “dead tree” shape, and combining it with lines and color. These experiments led to a much larger series, “Doodling in the Dark,” again using lines and color as well as providing the subconscious with a path towards storytelling website (under construction): www.rosabelgoodman.com


#U-7 – Handmade Persian Rug (3’5” x 4’9”)

Please enjoy this fine handmade carpet from Manoukian Brothers Oriental Rugs. This is a new Persian rug of the Abadeh design and style. They are currently holding a retirement sale at a new location in Arlington, and continue to carry a large assortment of beautiful handmade rugs from around the world

#U-9 – Bistrot Du Coin: Case of Wine
Value: $100
A case of Domaine du Tariquet 2015 de Pressée Rosé (Côtes de Gascogne). This widely ranging blend includes Bordeaux-style grapes, Tannat and Syrah. This wine is fruity, light as a feather and with the typical caramel underlay that comes from the Merlot in the blend. Red fruits and a crisp texture give this wine its attractive acidity. Drink now.

#U-10 – Tickets for 2 for Woman’s National Democratic Club
Value: $60 - Valid April 2019-April 2020
Certificate to attend a program luncheon or evening reception at the WNDC. Select from a variety of programs that feature prominent speakers from the political academic, literary, and business sectors, in addition to delicious food.

#T-1 - Tickets for 2 to Arena Stage: Jubilee
Value: $184 - Not valid for opening night.  Must reserve 48 hours ahead.
This package is for 2 tickets to Jubilee. The world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers shattered racial barriers in the U.S. and abroad, entertaining kings and queens. For centuries, the bold a cappella African American ensemble has blended their rich voices together sharing a heritage of suffering, strength and endurance. The run is April 26-June 2.

#T-2 – Tickets for 2 to a Show at Keegan Theatre

The Keegan Theatre presents powerful productions of classic and modern plays and musicals to the community at affordable prices. These tickets are for any show, including The Reluctant Dragon, Ripcord, Legally Blonde, and more.

Mosaic Theater Company is committed to making transformational, socially-relevant art, to producing plays by authors on the front lines of conflict zones, and to building a fusion community to address some of the most pressing issues of our times. #T-4 – Tickets for 2 to Studio Theatre: The Children
Value: $170 – This play runs May 1 – June 2, 2019
In their remote cottage on the British coast, a long-married pair of retired nuclear physicists live a modest life in the aftermath of a natural disaster, giving care to energy rationing, their garden, and their yoga practice. #T-6 – Tickets for 2 at Woolly Mammoth & Dinner at a José Andres Think Food Group Restaurant
Value: $330 for both – Tickets are only good for May 31 at 8:00 pm
Tickets to the Opening Night Celebration of Describe the Night, and admission to the post-show reception with cast and Creative team. Make a night of it, and use a $100 gift certificate to America Eats Tavern, Jaleo, Oyamel, Zaytinya, China Chilcano, Barmini or Minibar – José Andres restaurants. Hotel-run restaurants are not included.

This certificate is good for either lunch or dinner. Several DCV groups meet at La Tomate, so this is an opportunity to check it out for yourself.

Ellē is a cafe, bakery, restaurant, and bar in Mt. Pleasant. It also houses a wholesale bakery, Paisley Fig. During the day, it has counter service, serving coffee and rotating baked goods, sandwiches, and pastries. At night, it turns into a full-service restaurant and bar.
