Theater J’s Adam Immerwahr and Jojo Ruf are the DC theater scene’s newest dynamic duo. Adam is the Artistic Director of Theater J, the nation’s largest and most prominent Jewish theater, while Jojo, whose credits include coordinating producer for the path-breaking Women’s Voices Theater Festival, is the newly named Managing Director at Theater J.

Adam has held many prestigious posts, including Associate Artistic Director at McCarter Theatre, the Tony Award-winning regional theater in Princeton, NJ, and Resident Director at Passage Theatre. He’s particularly proud of having been Artistic Director of OnStage, an ensemble of retirees who collect and perform the stories of their community. He has also served on the producing team of multiple productions that have transferred to Broadway and off-Broadway, including the world premiere of Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Tony Award for Best Play); the original production of I
nto the Woods; and the original developmental production of Danai Gurira's Eclipsed, whose subsequent Broadway production garnered six Tony Award nominations. Adam also directs plays across the nation, including Woolly Mammoth’s recent, acclaimed production of Gurira’s Familiar.

Prior to coming to Theater J, Jojo, a homegrown talent, was Managing Director at the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics at Georgetown University, which harnesses the power of theater to humanize global politics. Her work there took her all over the globe. She was previously general manager and associate executive director for the National New Play Network, an alliance of non-profit theaters across the US that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, and also the founding executive and creative director of the Welders, an artist collective. She is currently on the board of theatreWashington, the service organization for DC-area theater artists, and completing her MBA at Georgetown.
