Bob Levey was hired by legendary Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee at age 22, “when I knew less than nothing.” He stayed 36 years, covering presidential politics, Congress and sports. For 23 years, he wrote a daily column, “Bob Levey’s Washington.” He now has written a novel called Larry Felder, Candidate. In 2000, he and his wife, Jane Freundel Levey, wrote Washington Album: A Pictorial History of the Nation’s Capital. Jane edits Washington History, the Magazine of the Historical Society of Washington, D.C.

Levey said Bradlee was “the most formative person I’ve been around in journalism.” Levey also worked elbow-to-elbow with “some of the tremendous talents at The Washington Post,” including David Broder, Haynes Johnson and Bill Greider. His daily column looked at all aspects of life in the Nation’s Capital and won major awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Washington Journalism Review. In addition, Levey had a career in the electronic media, where he worked for radio stations, TV stations and one popular Internet site as a commentator and talk show host. He was voted the 1994 Radio Talk Show Host of the Year and, in 1996, one of the most important radio talk show hosts in America by Talkers Magazine. In his new novel, Larry Felder’s candidacy is complicated by Larry Felder’s life, including an invalid wife, a lovestruck campaign manager and supporters who may be a little too free with their checkbooks.
