Beginning in 1991, Anders Åslund, an economist, served as an advisor to the Russian government in its move from communism to capitalism. In this way, Åslund was both an observer at close range and a participant to that transition. Anders Åslund followed that experience in Russia as advisor to several other parts of the former Soviet Union including Ukraine and Kyrgystan and the Baltic countries. He is an author or contributor to 25 book length works. His most recent is: Russia’s Crony Capitalism, The Path from Market Economy to Kleptocracy, so relevant to America’s international challenges and questions from Dupont Circle Villagers. In 2015, he became a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council's Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center with a dual appointment in its Global Business and Economics program. From 2006 to 2015, he was a senior fellow at the Peter G. Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, DC. Dr. Åslund currently teaches at Georgetown University. He served as an economic advisor to several governments, notably the Russian government (1991-4) and the Ukrainian government (1994-7).”
