Please join us for a fascinating three-part film noir series which will take place on Saturday afternoons at 2:00 pm on September 14th, October 5th, and December 9th.  The films to be presented are considered by most film scholars as the finest examples of the American film noir genre.

Each screening will begin with a brief introduction to the film’s highlights and its significance in film history. A discussion of the film will follow.

The first movie in the series will be Out of the Past (1947), directed by Jacques Tourneur – 1 hr. 37 min.

The wholesome life of a small-town gas station owner, Jeff Bailey (Robert Mitchum) is interrupted when a small-time crook, Joe Stephanos (Paul Valentine), recognizes him and forces him to return to New York to meet with his gangster boss Whit Sterling (Kirk Douglas). Enroute to the meeting Jeff tells his girlfriend Ann (Virginia Huston) about his past: Whit had hired Jeff to track down Kathie Moffat (Jane Greer), a girlfriend who shot Whit and stole $40,000.  After Jeff finds Kathie, he takes off to start a new life. But now, Whit wants Jeff for another job.  It's clearly a trap.

In 1991, Out of the Past was selected for preservation in the United States National Film
Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically
significant.”

Popcorn and soft drinks will be served.

Limit: 15 participants
