About this event

Join us for a captivating one-hour Zoom program featuring esteemed author and journalist Marvin Kalb as he delves into his upcoming book, A Different Russia: Khrushchev and Kennedy on a Collision Course.

From the beginning of John F. Kennedy's presidency, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev sought to engage with the new leader—first to meet him, then to negotiate a deal regarding Berlin. Their much-anticipated meeting at the Vienna Summit in June 1961 started with high hopes but quickly turned into a sobering reality, triggering a series of events that led to the Berlin Crisis and, ultimately, the Cuban Missile Crisis.

While this story has been recounted many times, Kalb presents it with fresh insights and perspective. Following the discussion, there will be an opportunity for audience Q&A.

Kalb's book will officially release on January 15, 2025. For those eager to read it beforehand, orders can be placed through this website.

Alternatively, the book is available for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, with delivery in January.
