About this event
Each year, Martin Walker, the London-based international journalist turned mystery writer, comes to Washington to plot out his next whodunit, starring Bruno, Chief of Police. At 13 books and counting, Bruno attempts to keep the peace in Southwest France's history-soaked Perigord region amidst murders, terrorist attacks, and (Mon Dieu!!) even the trafficking in fake black truffles.
The Girl in the Well is Walker's newest Bruno book, set at a chateau once owned by Josephine Baker, the very real expat American singer, actress and Word War II French Resistance fighter. Like all good Frenchmen, Bruno seeks to preserve the traditions of great local wine and food. This led Julia Watson, an accomplished chef, food writer and Martin's wife, to mastermind two gorgeous volumes of Bruno cookbooks. Alas, they are only published in German. (Don't ask, it's complicated)
Annie Groer and Abigail Wiebenson are cooking a Bruno specialty - Wine-Braised Chicken with Fennel and Roasted Grapes - in honor of our talented Celeb. He will sign whatever Bruno book you arrive with.
FYI - Location is 4 blocks west of the Dupont Metro, just past the Buffalo Bridge on the left. The lobby is accessible from the front driveway, but our elevators can only be reached by walking up 9 steps or down 6 steps.
