Visit to AU Museum at Katzen Arts Center
Lunch at Chef Geoff's
Join other Villagers for a visit to American University's Museum at the Katzen Arts Center to see seven new art exhibits that opened in early February.  The artwork is by contemporary artists, many of whom now live or have lived in the D.C. area. It includes photography, collage, drawings, woodcuts, painting, and sculpture exhibited by artist or subject on the three floors which comprise the museum.  The exhibits range from photographs taken during the mid 60s to early 70s of activities organized by a community arts center in Adams Morgan (the "New Thing Art And Architecture Center"), to woodblock prints and oil paintings of trees and nature, to an art installation centering on migration which is occurring as a result of climate change, to works by second generation Holocaust survivors influenced by family memories of traumatic experiences during the Holocaust, and more. See this link for more information about the exhibits: https://www.american.edu/cas/museum/

While we're there, two artists, whose mixed media collaborative installation is called "The Human Flood", will join us to talk about their work and the ideas behind it.

We will meet in the entrance to the Katzen Arts Center Museum (4400 Massachusetts Ave NW) on Ward Circle at 11:00 AM.   Note:  The outside door closest to the museum is actually on the side of Massachusetts Avenue north of Ward Circle. And by foot, it's easiest to use the Massachusetts Avenue entrance closest to Ward Circle which is near a lavender sculpture.  If you're parking in the garage, you'll need to exit on the first floor, walk through a rotunda, and go down a long hall to reach the museum. Parking is available in the building's garage on Massachusetts Ave. NW, but costs $2.00 per hour on weekdays (you need to pay for parking in machines located near the elevators before you go upstairs to the museum).  The museum is also bus and metro accessible - the N-4 bus goes there from the Dupont Circle area or take the Red Line metro to the Tenleytown station and catch either a free AU shuttle bus or the M-4 bus located on 40th and Albemarle Streets NW behind the metro station exit (both stop near the museum). Here's some additional information about transportation: https://www.american.edu/cas/museum/visiting.cfm

After the museum, interested guests can go together to Chef Geoff's Restaurant for lunch which is in easy walking distance from the museum. Please indicate whether you'd like to go to lunch so that a table or tables can be reserved for us.

Maximum number of guests for this event is 20.
